Forest of Pillars is a uniquely designed two-family house that embraces nature and privacy in a compact space. Situated on flagpole land with a mountain backdrop, the design incorporates pillars to seamlessly blend the interior with the surrounding greenery. Despite its modest size, the house feels expansive and deep, thanks to high ceilings and strategically placed sidelights.
The slender 90mm squared pillars, spaced at regular intervals, create a sense of density akin to furniture, while also supporting the roof and framing the space like a forest. Walls block views from neighboring houses, while clerestory windows above give the impression of a floating roof. Private functions are housed in boxes within the open plan, fostering a sense of depth and allowing for flexible activities.
This architectural marvel disassembles traditional elements and reconstructs them in a new form, resulting in a space that harmonizes with nature while offering privacy and adaptability. Forest of Pillars is not just a house; it's an embodiment of peace, roughness, and the coexistence of human habitation with the natural world.
